The UCI Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders is a part of UCI Pediatrics that monitors autistic children and has been an Executive Linguist translation client since 2007.
ELA translates various documents into Spanish for the Center about once a month, most often tasked with doing Spanish translation for informed consents. Sometimes brochures, surveys, and similar documents are in need of translation as well. Occasionally, Vietnamese translations are needed for the same types of documents.
Our responsibility is to translate informed consents clearly and accurately so the patient’s parents know what is going on and can make informed decisions about his or her child’s health.
Another department at UCI that we have been working with for over ten years is Chao Family Cancer Center. The requests from that department are also for Spanish and Vietnamese translations of Informed consents. The same standards apply as above. The only difference in working with the Cancer Center is that many times the Spanish and Vietnamese translations are needed on a rush basis as some of the newest and most experimental treatments are only used on late stage cases where all other modalities have failed.
As always, all documents are translated by humans – never by machines.
